PRP: Platelet-Rich Plasma

PRP (Platelet Rich Plasma) is widely-recognized as an all-in-one solution for anti-aging.  Use of PRP in cosmetic treatments has helped to restore fullness to the aging face, prompt hair-growth in sparse areas, and decrease the appearance of lines and creases.

Platelet rich plasma is a non-surgical treatment consisting of a serum derived from a sample of the patient’s own blood. After collecting the blood, it is spun in the centrifuge to separate the plasma from the red blood cells. The plasma is packed with epidermal growth factors that enhance the production of new collagen within the skin. By taking advantage of the skin rejuvenating benefits of PRP therapy, either with a PRP microneedling facial or with PRP injections, patients are able to enjoy a smoother, brighter, firmer complexion without any invasive surgery or extensive downtime. At Flawless Med spa we treat our clients with cosmetic procedures that incorporate the use of platelet rich plasma to provide them with pan-facial rejuvenation.

Platelet-rich plasma, or PRP, facial is a non-invasive cosmetic procedure that is also known as collagen induction therapy. A PRP facial is an excellent facial rejuvenation treatment option that requires very little downtime and can target a number of various skin concerns including stretch marks, acne scars, dark under eye circles, fine lines and wrinkles, enlarged pores, sun damage, hyperpigmentation, and more. The platelet rich plasma is a serum derived from a patient’s own blood sample. The blood is spun in the centrifuge after being collected in order to separate the red blood cells from the plasma. The plasma is rich in epidermal growth factors that help induce maximum collagen production within the skin. Once collected, the platelet-rich plasma is infused into the skin either via injections or applied topically as a serum during a microneedling treatment. Both delivery methods help with skin tightening and produce an overall smoother, firmer complexion, though the two procedures are very different experiences for the patient.

The way that PRP is injected into the skin is performed in a similar manner to injections with dermal fillers such as Juvederm or Restylane products. In fact, PRP can be injected in conjunction with dermal fillers. The most significant cosmetic effects from injections with PRP include overall improved skin hydration, skin texture, and skin tone. It is common to experience side effects such as swelling or bruising with PRP injections.

  • What is Dermaplaning?
Dermaplaning is a treatment that uses a medical scalpel to gently exfoliate the outer layer of dead skin cells and remove fine facial hair commonly known as “peach fuzz”, technically called “vellus” hair. it can be used as an alternative to laser treatments and microdermabrasion or along with them for an enhanced result. This procedure will give your skin a more radiant appearance. Following the treatment, makeup application is smoother and other skincare products are able to penetrate deeper in turn making hem more effective.
  • Am I a good candidate?
The ideal candidate for Dermaplaning has aging, dry, rough, or uneven skin tone. Dermaplaning can also help reduce the appearance of shallow acne scars, fine lines and superficial hyperpigmentation.
  • Is the treatment safe?
This treatment is extremely safe when performed by an properly trained skincare professional. There is no more risk to the skin than when you shave your legs. There is also no downtime associated with this procedure.
  • Does it hurt? Will it cause cuts?
Dermaplaning is effective by performing a gentle scraping motion across the skin’s surface. With hair removal such as waxing and threading, most people have the idea that all hair removal is painful, but Dermaplaning is entirely painless. There are risks of cuts on the skin, however they are small and very minor as the pressure used for Dermaplaning cannot cause a deep cut. These nicks and scrapes heal within 24-48 hours.
  • Will it make the hair on my face grow back thicker and darker?
No. There are different types of hair that grow on the body; vellus hair and terminal hair. Vellus hair is found on most areas of the body except palms, soles, lips and genital areas, whereas terminal hairs are found on the scalp, underarms and pubic region. The soft and fine vellus hair grows back at the same rate and texture.
  • What is the benefit of adding a chemical peel with Dermaplaning?
Hyperkeratosis is a build up of dead skin cells on the skin’s surface. By removing this initial layer, a chemical peel is able to penetrate deeper into the dermis resulting in a more effective treatment. The conjunction of dermaplaning and a chemical peel leaves the skin refreshed and rejuvenated. Together they promote new skin growth and target problems such as aging, sun spots and environmental damage.
  • How long is the treatment? How often can I have it done?
Dermaplaning takes anywhere between 30-45 minutes and can be performed every 3-4 weeks. The treatment itself removes approximately 21 days worth of dead skin so it is important to let your skin rejuvenate before your next appointment.
  • What is the difference between dermaplaning and microdermabrasion?
Both options are a form of physical exfoliation. Dermaplaning removes vellus hair (peach fuzz) and dead skin cells from the skin, microdermabrasion also exfoliate the surface of the skin, but not as thoroughly or deeply as dermaplaning does.
